Sushma Seth is a versatile actress, teacher of speech and drama, and children’s theatre activist. A Founder’s Scholar from Carnegie Melon University in the United States of America, where she received her Bachelors degree in drama. She also received the highest honor for excellence from Briarcliff College, where she was President of Student Council, and crowned May Queen!
A Founder Member of Yatrik, Sushma Seth played lead roles in over 80 plays, in Hindi, Urdu and English theatre in an eminently successful career since 1960.
Acted in over a 100 films, Junoon, Silsila, Prem Rog, Nagina, Chandni, Dhadkan, 1942 A Love Story, Kal Ho Na Ho etc and television series, notable among them were Humlog and Dekh Bhai Dekh.
Sushma Seth established Children’s CreativeTheatre in 1973, was on the faculty of several institutions, held workshops, and directed over 30 plays.
At present, she is the Cultural Director of an inter-faith NGO – Arpana, which believes that ‘service with love is true worship’, and where Ms. Seth has held many production-oriented workshops.
Sushma Seth has been felicitated and honored with many awards, the Rashtriya Priyadarshini Award, Bharat Nirman Award, Best Actress Award from Sahitya Kala Parishad, Lifetime Achievement Award from Chamanlal Society, Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award, National Vayoshrestha Samman from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowermnt and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Award for her contribution to Indian theatre .
